The Right Connection for the Right Job.
BirdDog has been part of the NDI® story from the beginning. We helped bring NDI into real hardware workflows, and it remains a core part of who we are. But modern video is not built around one protocol. Different jobs need different ways to move video. A camera in a studio, a feed coming from another city, a managed AV system, a livestream to a platform, or a simple camera preview may all need a different approach.
That is why BirdDog products support a wide range of IP video workflows, including NDI, SRT, Dante AV-H, RTMP, and RTSP. Because knowing IP video means knowing when to use each one.

NDI®
For flexible production over IP.
NDI is ideal when you want cameras, software, controllers, and production systems to work together across a local network.
It can carry high-quality video, audio, control, tally, and metadata over IP, making it a strong choice for live production, PTZ camera workflows, software switching, monitoring, routing, and multi-camera setups.
Use NDI when you want to build a flexible production workflow where devices can discover each other and work together on the network.
Best for: studios, live events, education, house of worship, corporate AV, content creation, and broadcast workflows.

SRT
For video over unpredictable networks.
SRT is designed to move live video securely and reliably across networks you do not fully control, such as the public internet.
It helps protect streams against packet loss and changing network conditions, making it a strong choice for contribution feeds, remote production, and sending video between locations.
Use SRT when you need to get video from one place to another over the internet or across less predictable networks.
Best for: remote contribution, field production, venue-to-venue links, distributed teams, and remote production workflows.

Dante AV-H
For managed AV-over-IP.
Dante AV-H brings Dante-style control and management to H.264/H.265 video workflows.
For AV teams and integrators, the key benefit is management. Dante AV-H makes it easier to route and manage audio and video using familiar Dante tools inside professional AV environments.
Use Dante AV-H when you need video to fit into a managed AV-over-IP system with clear routing, control, and system visibility.
Best for: corporate AV, education, installed AV, meeting spaces, campuses, and integrator-led projects.

RTMP
For streaming to online platforms.
RTMP is commonly used to send a live stream from an encoder or camera to a streaming platform or media server.
It is widely supported by streaming tools and platforms, which makes it useful when the goal is simple live delivery to an online destination.
Use RTMP when you need to send a live feed to a platform, service, or streaming server.
Best for: livestreaming, simple web delivery, social platforms, events, and creator workflows.

RTSP
For camera feeds and simple network viewing.
RTSP is often used to access or preview camera streams over a network.
It is useful for simple viewing, monitoring, integration with third-party systems, or workflows where a device needs to request and control a media stream.
Use RTSP when you need a straightforward way to pull a camera feed into compatible software, monitoring tools, or systems.
Best for: camera preview, monitoring, security-style workflows, third-party integrations, and simple IP video access.
